IT Support

Remote Work Setup and Support

There is a gap nobody owns. Your employer’s IT department supports the laptop and stops at the front door. Your internet provider supports the modem and stops there. Everything in between, which is where the actual problem usually lives, is yours. That is the part we handle.

The Problems We Get Called About

  • Calls that freeze or drop at the same time every afternoon, usually when everyone else on the network starts streaming.
  • A work laptop on the same flat network as a smart television, a games console and every phone in the building.
  • The spare bedroom being the furthest point in the building from the router.
  • Two monitors, a dock, a headset and a printer that work individually and not together.
  • A company VPN that makes everything slow, or will not connect at all from this network.
  • Scanning and signing documents, which is somehow still difficult in 2026.

What We Do

Separate Work From Everything Else

Your work device gets its own network segment, so a compromised device elsewhere on the network cannot reach it and your employer’s data is not sitting on the same flat network as a smart plug. This is also the single thing most likely to keep you on the right side of your employer’s acceptable use policy.

Give the Work Traffic Priority

Quality of service rules so that a video call does not lose to a 4K stream in another room. On most consumer routers this is either absent or misconfigured, and it is the fix for the afternoon problem.

Make the Office Itself Work

Wired connection to the desk where that is possible, monitors and docking sorted out properly, camera and microphone set up so you sound like a professional, and the printer and scanner actually usable from the machine you work on.

Sort Out the VPN and the Conferencing

We configure the client your employer provides, get it working reliably on your network, and diagnose whether a slow connection is the VPN, your Wi-Fi or the provider. We do not ask for, hold or use your employer’s administrative credentials, and we do not bypass controls their IT team has put in place. Where a change needs their side, we will write up exactly what to ask them for.

Straight Answers

My company IT says they cannot help with my own network. Is that normal?

Yes, and it is reasonable. They cannot support equipment they do not own or control. That boundary is exactly where we start.

Will you need my work password?

No. We work on your network and your own equipment. Anything that requires signing in to your employer’s systems, you do yourself while we are there, and we do not record those credentials. If a task genuinely cannot be done without their administrative access, that task belongs with their IT team and we will say so.

Why do my calls only break up later in the day?

Almost always network contention. Video calls need steady, low-latency bandwidth rather than a lot of it, so they are the first thing to suffer when streaming and downloads start competing. Traffic prioritisation fixes it without anyone else having to stop what they are doing.

Can you help if I am self-employed rather than remote?

Yes, and if that work is growing you may want our managed IT services instead, which cover backup, compliance and automation properly.

Is any of this tax deductible?

We have no idea, and we are not the people to ask. Your accountant is. We will give you a clear itemised invoice either way.
