IT Automation, Cybersecurity and Compliance in the Santa Maria Valley
The Santa Maria Valley runs on agriculture and food processing. That shapes the technology problems here, and it is why generic IT support rarely fits. A packing house has process controls on the plant floor, temperature records an auditor will ask for, and a seasonal workforce that doubles and halves every year. None of that looks like a law office.
What We See in the Valley
Records That Live in Three Places at Once
Lot codes on paper, temperatures in a logger, receiving data in Sage or an ERP, and a spreadsheet stitching them together the week before an audit. It works right up until someone asks for a lot-level trace inside 24 hours.
Plant Floor Systems Nobody Wants to Touch
Scales, labelers, sorters and controllers that were installed years ago, still running, still networked, and frequently on the same flat network as the office. Segmentation gets deferred because production cannot stop.
Insurance Questions That Are Getting Harder
Cyber renewal questionnaires now ask about MFA coverage, EDR, offline backups, patch cadence, end-of-life systems and log retention. Answering optimistically is how claims get denied.
What We Do About It
Traceability and Records Automation
Automated capture of lot-level records from the systems that already produce them, retained and retrievable in a sortable electronic format. FDA extended the FSMA 204 compliance date to July 20, 2028, which is time to build something real rather than a reason to wait.
Hosted SIEM Across IT and OT
Log collection from firewalls, servers, endpoints, Microsoft 365 and, where feasible, plant systems. We host and maintain it, tune the detections to your environment, and set retention to what your insurer actually asks for. Implementation starts at $3,500 for up to five log sources.
Automation for the Work That Eats the Week
Purchase orders, supplier confirmations, receiving paperwork, inventory thresholds, maintenance scheduling, and the month-end reporting somebody rebuilds by hand every period.
AI Workspace Setup for Valley Offices
Front offices at packing houses, ag service companies and family businesses get an AI assistant set up properly: projects for each grower or customer, branded templates, and a plan chosen for how it handles production and customer data. See AI Workspace Setup.
Common Questions
Do You Work on Plant Floor Systems?
We collect from them and we help segment them. We do not reprogram controllers or touch anything that stops a line without a planned window and a rollback.
Does FSMA 204 Require Cybersecurity Controls?
No. The rule requires traceability records and retrieval. The Intentional Adulteration rule separately requires vulnerability assessments, mitigation strategies, monitoring, corrective action and verification records. Cybersecurity is not named in either. What we secure is the systems those records depend on, which is a practical concern rather than a regulatory one.
We Are 30 People. Are We Too Small?
No. Most of our work is with businesses between 20 and 150 people who have real compliance exposure and no internal IT.
Can You Set Up AI Tools Like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot for Our Office?
Yes. AI Workspace Setup covers platform selection, secure configuration, project workspaces, branded templates and hands-on training for offices of one to twenty people. Discovery starts at $350. See AI Workspace Setup.
